The aim of this assignment is to deepen students’ understanding of simulation modeling for inventory management, sourcing strategies, and supply chain analysis using AnyLogistix. Students will explore how changes in design, inventory management, and sourcing policies impact supply chain performance through simulation-based ‘what-if’ analysis. Through this assignment, students will develop the ability to:
This task extends the work from Assignment 1, moving from supply chain design to simulation and analysis, allowing students to apply theoretical and practical knowledge in an integrated environment.
Students should follow the material covered in the Week 2, 3, and 4 lecture and the provided instructions. Additional resources on sourcing strategies and comparison experiments are available on the AnyLogistix website:
Reporting Requirements: Write a short report (500–1000 words) describing the supply chain problem and its structure, key input parameters (demand, inventory management policy, …) for each facility, and the sourcing assumptions. Briefly describe the initial simulation results for your base model (e.g., total cost, lead-time, transportation cost). Include the following visual materials in your report:
Students must complete two following parts, each extending the base model developed in Step 1. Each scenario should be clearly described, modelled in AnyLogistix, and compared with the base model using the ‘Comparison Experiment’ function. Include relevant visual materials (screenshots, tables, and charts) to support your analysis.
Scenario on Inventory Management / Sourcing Policies o Scenario Development: Create a scenario that changes one or more aspects of inventory management or sourcing strategies at different echelons of the base model.
Reporting Requirements: Write a 1–2 page summary describing the scenario design, rationale, and changes made. Include screenshots of the updated model setup and comparison outputs, also a short discussion interpreting the differences in model performance. Use visual aids wherever possible to illustrate findings clearly.
Scenario on Supply Chain Design o Scenario Development: Create a second scenario that modifies the design of the supply chain network structure. Example modifications may include: changing the facilities establishment criteria (e.g., from maximum distance from customers to a fixed number of facilities); Relocating, adding, or removing facilities; Adjusting facility capacities or changing facility types.
Reporting Requirements: Write a 1–2 page summary describing the scenario design, rationale, and changes made. Include screenshots of the updated model setup and comparison outputs, also a short discussion interpreting the differences in model performance. Use visual aids wherever possible to illustrate findings clearly.
