Portfolio Assignment – Communication Practices for Supporting Individuals in Health and Social Care Settings
Title: Work Display your proficiency in written communication skills through the completion of the below portfolio/collection of work.
Organise your submission under the following headings.
Portfolio – Part 1 Structured Report (15 Marks)
The structured report must relate to your chosen vocational area and may also be based on the topic of your oral presentation and demonstrate a wide range of research in this field, it should:
- Follow the accepted conventions i.e. title, procedure, findings, discussion, conclusions and recommendations. (3 Marks)
- Contain information from a variety of sources of primary and secondary research (3 Marks)
- Be well structured, detailed, balanced and use impersonal language, (3 Marks)
- Contain relevant visual supports, i.e., drawings, charts, photographs etc., (3 Marks)
- Have all resources acknowledged through references and bibliography, (not included in word count) (3 Marks)
Be word processed (minimum 1000 words.)
Portfolio – Part 2 Other Documents (15 Marks)
- A current Curriculum Vitae (6 Marks)
- A letter of application for a position in your vocational area, this letter should be accompanied by a handwritten draft and a copy placed in your portfolio (3 Marks)
- A personal letter, this letter should be handwritten (3 Marks)
- The documents should be word processed, where appropriate, and should use correct layout, with legible writing and accurate, concise expression. (3 Marks)
Evidence of drafting, re-drafting and editing should be attached to at least one of the finished pieces. One of these drafts must be handwritten.
Portfolio – Part 3 Communications Technology Essay (10 Marks)
- Define communication and information technology, (2 Marks)
- Outline the uses of communications technology to include the rationale for choice of method and appropriateness, (4 Marks)
- Outline relevant legislation and describe their application in the workplace (Safety Health & Welfare at Work Act 2006, Data Protection 2018, ePrivacy Regulations 2011). (4 Marks)
Portfolio – Part 4 Reading Task-Vocational/Literary Text (10 Marks)
You must demonstrate your ability to read and evaluate a HIQA report.
- You must select a recent report published by a regulatory body in your vocational area (HIQA/Tusla) and critically evaluate the information provided within this document. (2 Marks)
- You are required to identify the key points using in-depth analysis (4 Marks)
- and record your findings showing feedback and reflection throughout your work. (4 Marks)
